“No judgement. Just progress.” Those four words describe Elaine Dowling’s philosophy about training, whether she’s instructing Pilates clients or ballet students of all ages. A classically trained ballet dancer, Elaine was originally introduced to Pilates in 1995, as part of her rehabilitation from a dance injury. Years later, Pilates helped her recover from another dance injury. On both occasions, her instruction was through Sunday Homitz, owner of Body Technic Systems (BTS) in Solon, whose background includes dance, physical therapy, and Pilates instruction from the “Pilates Elders,” the original students of Joseph Pilates who’ve continued his legacy into the present.
“Pilates was key to my return to dance,” Elaine says. “Those experiences prompted me to consider a Pilates teacher certification as both a personal insurance policy and an additional career direction.” Elaine earned her Pilates mat and machine certifications at Body Technic Systems (BTS). Since 2019 she has taught mat and reformer classes at Cleveland area fitness centers such as The Movement Factory in Lakewood; Studio 11 in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood; COREdination Pilates in Brecksville; and One to One Fitness on the Case Western Reserve University campus. She also instructs students in the BTS Pilates teacher training certification program.
